Castle Cornet

Our guide, Steve Molnar, gave us a comprehensive tour of Castle Cornet (Cor-net, not Cor-nay!) including the normally closed cold war communications centre, which added yet another layer of history to the English Civil War, Napoleonic and German occupation.  The Germans piled concrete upon stone, and named their shelters after women - appropriate, really.  The solid safes held top secret codes and documents up to the 1970s.  The diorama showed the Guernsey Light Infantry in a 1917 battle with tanks.
