Somehow the SVAS managed to secure a display from the Vulcan right at the end of the season, so six thousand people crammed into Old Warden. The contrast between ancient biplanes puttering about and this Cold War bomber opening up its four enormous jet engines was actually a once-in-a-lifetime experience. Meredith had her hands over her ears and her eyes wide open. Restricted since Shoreham to bank angles of no more than 60 degrees, the pilot finished with a 110 degree wing-over, to warm applause from the crowd.
