Jan Palach was a Czech student who set fire to himself in 1968 in protest against Soviet occupation of his country. In the square is a statue of Antonin Dvorak (our guide pronounced it 'Vor-ark') facing the Rudolfinium Concert Hall. Opposite the hall is the Faculty of Arts building.
