The Champs-Elysees was lined by hundreds of white huts selling food and souvenirs, while in anticipation of terrorist attacks after incidents in southern French towns, armed soldiers patrolled the streets in threes. The Place de la Concorde was busy and decorative, but some preferred to relax in the Tuileries.
