Just because we can level out contrast and see into 'shadow' areas doesn't mean we can't have contrast. Some detail in the window and the stone behind the flowers seemed a good idea. The statue of Mary Magdalen meeting Jesus on Easter Sunday did not separate from its background even at f/2.8, but the avenging eagle could sustain a low key treatment.
