Red Aeroplanes

The Comet made several flights during the day and is always a delight to see in the air.  There were three Comper Swifts present, but only two, G-ACTF and G-ECTF, made it into the display.  The floatplane is an Aviat Husky.  G-HEKL is a replica Mew Gull, seen with the original G-AEXF.  G-AAYX is the Southern Martlet, and the triple-finned Miles is a Messenger.

Yellow seems to be a popular colour for sports planes.

Race Day At Old Warden

The airfield is not licensed for air racing, said the commentator, before they proceeded to do just that with assorted aircraft and a Pitts-only field of six of them.  It was a perfect September day and the subject was racing aircraft, including three floatplanes (Schneider Trophy) and the Spitfire because it was developed from the floatplanes, but the P51 was a little harder to explain, like the Nieuport.

Wicken Fen Buzzard

After visiting Anglesey Abbey we went to the Burwell end of Wicken and the new hide.  It was very dry and bird-free, but I photographed this buzzard.  Although I didn't get a good look at its tail, it is probably not a rough-legged buzzard, just a very pale buse variable.

Rosemary Beetles

A pest from the Continent that eats rosemary flowers.  These images are all focus-stacked.  The camera takes eight frames, changing the focus point each time, and stitches the frames together to produce a picture with greater depth-of-field than a single image.
