Inner Farne

Inner Farne is where the terns attack you (they seem to prefer black hats) but I stuck to Puffins and other auks.  The Kittiwakes stuck to little ledges off the plateaux, and the Shags made nests.

Staple Island

Our boat contained a large party of Asian photographers with big DSLRs and matching lenses.  They all stood up at every opportunity during the one hour trip around Longstone Island (Grace Darling's abode) and once on the island stationed themselves and their tripods on the steps to get the best shots of the Lesser Black-Backed Gulls stealing fish from the poor little Puffins.  Most of the time I used the Olympus 150mm lens because the birds were so close, down to 40mm for establishing shots.

Beadnell Terns

Our first day took in a walk along the beach towards Beadnell and a tern nesting site. The Painted Ladies were now quite sun-bleached.  Still visible on the sand were WW2 tank obstacles. Got my first photo of a Rook.

First Evening in Seahouses

Evening light on the beach: Ann; Barry and the Farne Islands; rock patterns and a doughnut swirling the surface of a rock pool.

Rubbish

Although people seem to be better at disposing of rubbish in bins, there seem to be too few bins and not enough collections.  When you see how many cleaners there are in Granary Square (private land) the contrast is striking.  (Rant ends here.)

Colour in the East End

All with the Fuji 35mm f/2, which was too long for the crowds but good for the details.

London Bikes

I did take one of a red Santander bike, but got the focus wrong.  The white bike here looked VERY expensive.

Thirty Years (2)

While we were in London, Sadie and Meredith decorated the lunch boxes we bought for our Northumberland holiday.  Sadie did the box on the right.

Thirty Years

Today was our 30th Wedding Anniversary and we took the coach up to Mile End and explored Brick Lane.  More pictures to follow.

In The Paddock

A lively post-race discussion did not end in fisticuffs; a rider shares his concerns with his mechanic and a tyre expert goes to work.
