The National Maritime Museum

The NMM has a big collection of ship figureheads, including a bulldog with a longer nose than the Kennel Club would recognise nowadays.  The Great Map is a wonderful idea.

78, Derngate, the Guest Bedroom

The room where GBS slept.  He claimed not to have been disturbed by the migraine-inducing stripes above him, as 'I slept with my eyes closed'.

The dining room was a cut below the style of the rest, but the bathroom appealed to me.

The sitting room has a bust of George Bernard Shaw, who was a guest at the house. The stairs lead up to the master bedroom (detail).  The doors halfway up the stairs open onto brickwork with an air-brick behind each door.

The kitchen is one floor below front pavement level.  The little window allowing light into the staircase is typical CRM.

Back a day earlier than last year, the males have been on the wing waiting for the females to arrive.

Wicken Fen

More insects for Ann at the Fen today, and a couple of distant Cuckoos for me.  Juvenile Little Grebe, too.

Kingston Reserve

Not as many insects as usual, but lots of Pyramidal Orchids (plus a Small Skipper departing).  Lots of Meadow Browns, Large Whites and Ann saw some Blues.

Sports Day

Sadie in the Skipping Race (3) and the Spoon Race (4); Meredith in the Relay (Matt and Ann photographing her) and Sadie following up. The Red Team won this all-years race.
