High Lodge

Fun looking for fairy money under the mushrooms, which kept Sadie and Meredith happy and busy, until they discovered a pile of earth.  Meredith enjoyed throwing the ball for Bracken.

Autumn Leaves

Taken along the Hardwick Road, but without the warm light needed for good colours.

Wicksteed Park

Lots of fun on the rides.  Sadie and Meredith spent more than twenty minutes on the roller coaster at the end of our visit.

More From Camden

The water tower in the first image was demolished somewhere else and reconstructed here.  Kings Cross station is in the background.

Welney Washes

Welney was absolutely packed with birds, and the water level was low, so they were crowded into smaller pools.  A Great Egret was seen.

The Gasholders Apartments

Just along the canal from Granary Square, four old iron gas holders are being transformed into 146 apartments, all costing at least one million pounds.  One holder has been left 'open' with the old running wheels to allow the roof to rise with the gas pressure, and grass in the middle, with a mirrored roof to the walkway and vertical angled mirrors, features which fascinated all ages.  It looked a very tasteful conversion.

Granary Square

Granary Square is just behind King's Cross Station, and is home to St. Martin's College, the art school.  The tunnel to the Tube changes colour all the time.  The old Coal Drop Yard is being remodelled as, inevitably, a shopping mall.  Note the gasholders behind also being re-invented.

Goldfinch Incident

The goldfinches on our feeder scattered and one flew into the window and winded itself.  Ann picked it up and kept it warm until it could stand on its legs, but it didn't want to leave her finger, even when she tried to move it to the feeder.  Eventually it recovered and flew off.  Job done.

Fowlmere

Not a lot happening at the reserve this morning, as the kestrel probably thought, being hungry.
