Central Library

We entered the Central Library to see the circular reading rooms and were gobsmacked by the transformation - a huge atrium leading up four floors to an eccentric skylight.  It was completed in 2013.

Liverpool By Day

We took the bus into the city and visited Paddy's Wigwam.  The oval decoration actually hides an electricity sub-station.  The cathedral buttresses could be the landing legs of a flying saucer, folding out from the main body - very 1960s!  Inside was quite dark without the sun shining through the glass.  The bust is of St Oscar Romero, who was Archbishop of San Salvador and assassinated by a sniper in 1980 for his outspokenness about the regime.

New Brighton Night

We arrived at our AirB&B in Wallasey mid-afternoon and headed down to the New Brighton front with tripods.  There were some downward-facing lights under the balcony on the lighthouse, but these were intermittent.  It was very dark and fishermen were going down to the shore to try to catch cod.  The Liverpool docks opposite were well lit and working.  Fort Perch was still there.

Walking the Pack

We took Ted to meet Ian and Isla, along with Peter, Holly and Bracken at Coton and had a muddy walk with lots of ball-throwing.  Pix with the X-Pro1.

Fun in Cambridge

We went in on the Park & Ride and bought tickets to go up the tower of Great St Mary's Church, but the winding stairs were steep and each step was too high for the girls, who gave up.  We had Oreo milk drinks and played around a lot before going to Ye Olde Sweet Shoppe and buying rainbow lollies before waiting for the bus back - top deck, of course.

Christmas Day (2)

The moon was still up at 8.30 when we left home.  The sun was very orange and the frost was beginning to drip from the trees.  The horses thought they should get carrots as it was Christmas, but all we could give them was strokes on the nose.

Christmas Day (1)

Only 6 a.m. this year, so more civilised.  Meredith still likes simple books and soft toys but Sadie is more demanding.

North Pole Fair

Held on Parker's Piece, it includes the fearsome Chaos swing.  Afterwards I visited the Natural History Museum off Downing Street.
